The Most Absurd Movie Mistakes You’Ve Never Noticed

Advertisements

Before red carpets, premieres, cinema releases, box office rankings, criticism, awards, and fans watching the movie over and over again (if they love it, though), there’s a lot that happens before the official release of our favorite movies. From casting to plotting to design of movie sets and dressing actors to be perfect for their characters, the directors, managers, or editors can sometimes make absurd movie mistakes.

While some of these errors are unnoticeable and can be swept under the carpet, some are too glaring for our eyes that our mouths can't keep shut, and our fingers can't be held back; we have to blog about it. To cap it all, some of these movie errors are hilarious, while others are just shameful. Whichever way you find it, we hope you enjoy this post as much as we enjoyed putting it together for you.

Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark: The coolest extra wearing a jean

Of course, this error made it to the top of our list. An extra behind the lead character, Indiana Jones, is seen wearing jeans.

indiana jones and raiders of the lost ark - most absurd movie mistakes

Jeans can make anybody look good. They are the rave of the moment, but it hasn’t always been this way, especially not in the 1930s. We’re feeling pretty positive that this extra would have naturally worn a cap with a leather jacket over trouser pants but wearing jeans and tees wouldn’t be the first look on a man’s mind during that time.

We absolutely love the works of Steven Speilberg (this also did very well in the box office), and we are sending our shoutout to the extra. He unapologetically stayed true to his style.

Glory: Soldier using digital wristwatch during the civil war

One soldier on this movie set is seen wearing a digital wristwatch. No biggie? Here’s where the error lies.

glory - most absurd movie mistakes

We get it! A wristwatch goes well with a soldier's smart outfit, or he wants to keep track of time so he doesn't miss picking his kids up from school or a ton of other reasons why he may be wearing a wristwatch. However, this will be called an error because the movie's plot was set during the civil war in the early 1860s, and digital wristwatches were not yet invented.

Julius Ceasar: Too many bullet bras

In 1941, the first bullet bra hit the market. Some women loved it, and over time, as movie stars wore it, the bra became more popular as everyone wanted to be like the celebrities in all of their glory. It was named  ‘bullet bra’ since it came out around wartime.

These bullet bras were truly the rage in the 1950s, and so we think the costumier on the set of Julius Caesar couldn’t get enough of it. Most women cast in the movie wore bullet bra’s even though the movie’s setting was 44 BC, and the bra was still so far from even coming into existence. This bra choice has a long-distance relationship with time accuracy, we must say.

American Hustle: The Rolex that came too early

If you own a timepiece like Rolex, you likely wouldn’t trade its uniqueness for anything else and wear it all the time, even on set! Louis C.K played the role of Stoddard Thorsen in the huge movie Cheat, and he was wearing a Rolex wristwatch in a scene.

Although we loved many things about this successful movie, we have to say that this was an avoidable error. The Rolex seen on Louis is modern and sleek and was only designed in 2010, but the movie’s setting was in the 70s.

New York Gangs: Firefighters refuse to be vintage

This movie centered on the lead character seeking to avenge his father, who was killed in a gang fight.

It featured excellent and award-winning actors like Liam Neeson, Cameron Diaz, and Leonardo DiCaprio, but it still had so many flaws in its continuity. Anyway, we’re feeling generous and choosing to look at only one error in props because we enjoy seeing harmony in the details of a movie set.

The props manager isn’t going to bring the best props award home with this error as we see firefighters in a scene wearing the type of uniform they wear today, but the movie’s setting was set in 2002. Firefighters wore different types of uniforms during that time.

The Wedding Singer: Drews hairstyle was not yet popular

Whenever Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler get together on set, we know magic is being made, and this movie was also a bonafide box office hit.

the wedding singer - most absurd movie mistakes

The story focused on a singer trying to save a bride from her own wedding, but it turns out that wasn’t the only thing that needed saving. We wished someone saved Drew from wearing that haircut that wasn’t in sync with the time setting of the movie.

Her haircut is found to have been more popular in the 90s, but she had it on in a movie whose setting was in the 80s. Oh, Poor Drew!

Gone with the wind: A choice for efficient Electric lamps

This epic American historical and romance film was way ahead of its setting in terms of technological advancement. In one scene, we see the movie's moral center, Melanie, holding a lamp, and its electric cable was sadly obvious.

This sort of lamp was invented around the 1870's-the 80s, after the civil war in which this movie was set.

We understand where the temptation to use this lamp came from. Electric lamps are pretty efficient. Plug it in, and voila! The room lights up. Who would choose a lamp oil over this?

Captain America (The First Avengers): Advanced headphones waited a little longer

Most superhero movies like Captain America tend to be very creative with their use of technology, and so we won't make a big fuss about this error.

captain america - most absurd movie mistakes

The first Avengers movie was set in the Civil war, but we find the super-soldier Jim Morita wearing a headset that is way advanced and only made in the early 2000s. It looks cool on him, though.

Gladiator: Russel’s underwear stuck out its head

We promise we weren't even looking too hard when we noticed this mistake.

Russel Crowe played Maximus in the Gladiator movie, and his shorts were visible under his gown and armor. We wish the costumier put more effort into achieving that flawlessness. We genuinely loved Gladiator and Maximus was one of the characters why.

Pride and Prejudice: The Nylon Rope Swing

Even though we are happy that Lizzie is swinging on a strong rope, she really shouldn't, and it's not because we want her to fall.

pride and prejudice - most absurd movie mistakes

The rope used on this swing in the scene of Pride and Prejudice was made of synthetic fibers, specifically nylon. However, in the era of the movie's setting, this material wasn't available. Ropes in the 19th century were made of natural fibers like cotton and other ropey plants like Sisal.

Anyway, we can sweep this under the carpet for the safety of darling Kiera Knightley who played Lizzie.

The Informant: FBI did it with his Nike Gold Spikes

Nike means many things to many different people, especially since the brand encourages us to \'just do it, but this widespread popularity was only from the 2000s.

the informant - most absurd movie mistakes

The time difference between this period and the movie setting makes it baffling for us that an FBI officer in this movie was confidently wearing one. How did everyone on the crew miss this?

Where Eagles Dare: 60’s haircut during the civil war

This movie was set during the civil war, and if we take a trip down fashion trends in memory lane, women wore ornate hairstyles that used wide curls, hairpins and styled with braids.

Where eagles dare - most absurd movie mistakes

However, the hairdressers on the set of The Eagle's challenge obviously like to go big or go home with the bad hairstyle award. We see the character who played the German waitress, Heidi wearing a haircut that was completely out of time and setting.

Anyway, you win some and lose some. The team may have lost the hairdressers award, but they sure stand a chance with the time-travelers award for moving this haircut so fast in time.

Pirates of the Caribbean (The Curse of the Black Pearl): Wrong Red Coats on the Boat

The British Army uniform has transitioned over time, but the red coat seems to be the one piece that has stuck such that it is now only for ceremonial events, and we’re not surprised.

pirates of the caribbean - most absurd movie mistakes

However, we find it surprising that the Pirates of the Caribbean were already innovators of this uniform before the British government even thought of it. In the movie, we see soldiers wearing a red coat in 1720, and the uniforms came into use in 1647. We must raise our glasses for this painful and inaccurate innovation.

Sense and Sensibility: Diapers before Diapers

Using modern-day diapers in a movie whose setting was 1811 is a pretty 'shitty' mistake (get it?).

sense and sensibility - most absurd movie mistakes

Diapers are so convenient that the costumiers on the set of this movie released in 1995 forgot to think back to the days where parents had to wash and reuse napkins even when babies pooped in them. Take that grimace away..yes, it happened!

Troy: Not the Umbrella Maker

Sometimes, we want to give the crew credit for being the creators of certain props because of how they are erroneously but boldly used on set, but we simply can't.

Troy - most absurd movie mistakes

How Orlando Bloom pulls out this fun pink umbrella in the Epic movie was truly shameful, using such props with over 800 years of interval yet with no remorse. This is simply recklessness, but we still love the movie. Troy was a one-of-a-kind story!

Fast and Furious: From Tshirt to Tank Top

As the Fast and Furious movies were making money, they were making mistakes as well. The only thing that consoles us with this error is that both shirts were color black. We’ve swept some errors under the carpet, but this is too big to cover.

fast and furious - most absurd movie mistakes

The costume department slipped, and the continuity department missed it as we earlier saw Johnny Tran racing against Jesse in a black t-shirt in a scene. As the camera shows Van Diesel and then back to Johnny, he was wearing a tank top.

We truly don’t understand it. Actors really want to show off their muscles on and off set!

Schindler’s list: Women we’re all shaved up

Everyone wants to breathe well these days, and so we think maybe the crew didn’t want their cast to fill up the set with bad odor as we see all the women with shaved legs and armpits.

schindlers list - most absurd movie mistakes

Actors cleaning up nice? Good!. However, for a movie during world war(II), we think it's pretty absurd that women who were refugees of war and simply surviving in refugee camps will be bothered with getting razors and shaving for beauty checks. Having said that, it'll be nice if you've shaved today!

The Last Samurai: Too vintage for Tom

So far, we’ve seen many errors that have to do with the crew jumping way ahead of time, but the crew of The Last Samurai has shocked us with their love for the things of the past. We only wished they took more time to play dress-up with their lead character, Tom Cruise.

The Last Samurai - most absurd movie mistakes

We spot the character in his role as Captain Nathan Algren, a Civil and Indian War veteran wearing an armor that was only popular and used at least 250 years before the setting of that movie in a battle.

The costumier must have thought the armor would be great with Tom’s skin tone and traveled back in time to get it. We applaud thee for thy effort!

The Notebook: One Hair Colour? ‘Two’ Boring

Noah and Alli may have been blinded by love for each other in this movie, but we are not.

the notebook - most absurd movie mistakes

We saw clearly when the hair of Alli’s second lover, Lon, in one scene changed from brown to black and from black back to brown again. We loved many things about this romantic movie, but we stand our ground and hold our placards as we say no to silly errors.

Legends of the Fall: Wrong Hair for Brad

Brad Pitt is beautiful, we all agree, but we refuse to keep shut with this incorrect choice of representing his gorgeousness.

legends of the fall - most absurd movie mistakes

The crew put Brad in character as Tristan Ludlow, who lived through a difficult birth and an even more complicated life filled with rivalry. Throughout this movie, Tristan wears a 60s haircut for a movie whose timeline was in the 1910s.

With everything Brad went through in this character, we thought he at least deserved the right to the correct hairstyle for the movie set.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: Pitt’s Sunglasses are too modern

We cried so much throughout this movie that we almost missed the errors behind our tears.

The curious case of Benjamin Button - most absurd movie mistakes

His royal gorgeousness, Brad Pitt, played Benjamin Button in this movie where he had a rare aging ailment. He was born old, and so he aged backward. Benjamin also falls in love with a woman who aged normally, and when he got to his young days, we see him looking too hot to handle with his sunglasses.

The only ice on this look was his Ray-ban sunglasses was not in line with this film as they were only in existence in 1952, yet this movie’s setting was in 1945.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: No medal for Nazi’s

It's not like we have an issue with good-looking German Nazis wearing shiny buttons and medals, but we won't fold our arms and watch, especially if there's an error to those beauties.

Indiana Jones and the last crusade - most absurd movie mistakes

In this 1989 action-adventure movie,  we see some of the evil Nazis decorated with shiny medals. This depiction is out of place for this movie’s setting as this decoration only came into use in the 1940s, around the end of world war II. Meanwhile, this movie was shot in a 1938 setting.

Can we say this was a ‘shiny’ mistake?

Captain America (The First of the Avengers): All Hair Up

Hayley Atwell, who played Peggy Carter in this Avenger movie, was lovely in her army uniform and full curly hair falling on her shoulders.

captain america - most absurd movie mistakes

This hairdo may be right for the time of the movie, but as a woman in the Army, her hair isn't supposed to fall on her shoulder at all. It should be up above her collar; that was the law during that period.

Pretty woman: The magical tie

This romantic movie gave us a cinderella twist and more. The co-lead character Richard Gere played by Edward Lewis was a rich businessman who attended events as part of his thing, and throughout this movie, he was wearing a tie.

Pretty woman - most absurd movie mistakes

Later on, in a scene where he was engrossed in a conversation with Vivian, played by Julia Robert, in the prostitute and co-lead role, he loosened his tie before watching TV. When the camera shows him again, it was done and then later undone again. What's happening? We know Vivian is hot, but we didn't expect her to cause this much confusion.

Singing in the rain: Good dress, Bad Time.

It's hard to find an error in the finest musical of all time, but that's our job, and we did find some. But not to take away the magic from your favorite movie, we'll only be looking at the error of the pink dress.

Singing in the rain - most absurd movie errors

Debbie Reynolds, who played Kathy Seldon, wore a pink dress that had a tulle skirt. This fashion trend only emerged in the 1950s, but the supposed setting of this movie was in the 20s. Seriously? And you all put her under the spotlight with so much boldness, seriously?

Mystery Mountain: Contrasting Hairstyles

The hair department on the set of this movie obviously didn't have any time to waste as they went straight to dishing out hairstyles according to the looks of the cast. We say this because there aren't any chances that the hairstyles used by women in this movie were actually in trend during the time of this movie.

mystery mountain - most absurd movie mistakes

Our thoughts are that these hairstyles were way ahead of the setting. We see the young girls have wavy hair long hair, parted in the middle, and the older women with big buns with some tousled power. These were hairstyles that emerged around the late 20th century, but this movie's setting was 1900. But it's fine. Whatever helps our hair department sleep at night, we'll take it.

The Other Boleyn Girl: Natalie’s Hair is uncovered

Throughout this movie, we see the women dress like royalty and wear their tiaras with a veil covering the back of their hair.

the other boleyn girl - most absurd movie mistakes

However, Natalie Portman's case was different as in many scenes, her hair was uncovered. Even though having her hair fly out was beautiful, it would be considered improper and rogue that she would wear her hair this way in this English setting and time. This time we are sending our accolades to the wardrobe department, such nerves!

Django Unchained: Sunglasses weren’t made yet

Django Unchained was an iconic movie, so it did very well at the box office, grossing almost half a billion dollars.

Django Unchained - Most absurd movie mistakes

As the revolutionist Django was in this movie, we see why he needed to stand out such that he traveled ahead of time to get those sunglasses he wore throughout the movie. These sunglasses were not made until years after the setting of the movie. Anyway, it's okay, they made some errors and made a lot of paper. Very forgivable.

Pearl Harbor: Too much legs

This romantic war film was focused on a story of 3 young people navigating through life,  their careers and got stuck in an attack before the second world war. However, there can't be a romantic film without beautiful women, and we see many beautiful women in this movie, although something was eventually off.

pearl harbor - most absurd movie mistakes

Over the years, women and their way of dressing have been subject to so many rules that determined how they should or should not cover up. This movie shows women wearing skirts without socks and showing their legs. This is off the radar for a setting before the world war. It wasn't until late in the 20th century that women got comfortable and started to show skin unapologetically.

Amadeus: There was a Zipper before it came

Amadeus was an insanely talented composer with genius melodies, and we just thought maybe the props department would also let this brilliancy show in his wardrobe.

Amadeus - most Absurd movie mistakes

During a performance, he wore a waistcoat that obviously had a zipper, where zippers only came into use in 1925, and the setting of the movie is in the 18th century. This error is even more heartbreaking than Antonio's jealousy of Amadeus in the movie.

Seabiscuit: Helmets with beautiful stripes? No!

Even though this race-horsing drama focused on a horse it was titled after; we still can't get over the very good-looking Tobi Maguire in his role as Jockey.

sebiscuit - most absurd movie mistakes of all time

We spot him wearing a striped helmet during one of the races, even though this type of helmet wasn't made until 1956. The helmet matches his Silks, and so we don't want to blame the wardrobe department for this incompetency. Maybe it was too irresistible; one could never tell.

The Tudors: Flashings would call for an outrage

The Tudors was a brilliant historical drama. Although the movie was filled with a lot of factual errors, we will let those slide.

The Tudors - most absurd movie mistakes

This time we are sitting on a beautiful error on the neck as we sight the stunning actress Natalie Dorman in her role as Anne Boleyn, wearing a flashing with her dress to the ball.

It was a nice mix with her dress, but we won't get carried away. Wearing this fashion accessory during the setting of this movie would be considered disgraceful. On this note, we give up on the crew on this set.

Saving Private Ryan: Black Boots

Steven Spielberg once again treats us to another iconic film work. This movie was focused on Captain Miller, played by Tom Hanks, finding a missing Seargent, Private Ryan, played by Matt Damon. We were too engrossed with the captivating storyline but trust us not to miss this error that was so obvious in most parts of the movie.

saving private ryan - most absurd movie mistakes

Some of the soldiers are seen wearing black boots. However, this movie depicts world war II, and all soldiers in WWII used brown boots. The Army was only issued black leather for boots in the 1950s.

Public Enemies: Depp’s Cover was too modern

In this movie, we see Johnny Depp put down his pirate hat for a city bandit terrorizing the whole town.

public enemies - most absurd movie mistakes

Banditry never looked so hot! But we were taken aback by the robe worn by Judges in this movie. Those robes were too impressive, and so we knew something was off. They weren't what a judge in the US depression era would wear robes. They were simply too sleek for the time, especially Judge Murray's vest.

My Girl: Mood rings weren’t gracing  fingers yet

This classic movie surely exceeded our expectations with its classical and romantic storyline, but the butterflies in our tummy weren't too much to distract us from this desperate error.

my girl - most absurd movie mistakes

In one scene, we see a mood ring boldly used and even flaunted as Vada and Shelly have a conversation. The problem is that this ring was only invented in 1975, and the movie's setting was in 1972. How can we forgive this?

The Colour purple: This type of tie did not exist

Before we speak of this error, we want to say it's already forgiven because it was a hit and a box office success.

the color purpe - most absurd movie mistakes

The movie was also a production of Steven Spielberg, and man has really been under the bus of this list, so we won't go too hard on this movie. This movie journeyed through the struggles of an African-American woman and saw her find her strength through the help of two other females.

We love the black girl magic going on, but we must point out that scene where Danny Glover, who played Albert, was seen wearing a clip-on necktie that wasn't in existence during the time of the movie. As we earlier said, wardrobe department, we forgive you and hope you do better next time.

That's enough errors for one blog.

We advise that you don't become too heartbroken by any of the shameful errors you may have encountered, especially if your favorite movies were listed. You can forgive them as we have, or you can always pick a new favorite movie. Just kidding, we all know that to err is human but to forgive is divine. Winks!
